Ashlee Exposed Even More

Salon.com jumps on the Ashlee-burning bandwagon with this article. Heather Havrilesky, Salon's celebrity slammer of the day, says,
"And with one little recording mishap, young Ashlee cashed in whatever counterfeit street cred she and her handlers tried so hard to cultivate."
Pretty funny stuff, but even funnier:
Hours after the SNL incident, several Websites dug up an interview in Lucky Magazine, where Ashlee professed her disdain for pre-recorded vocals.

Lucky: What are your takes on lip-synching?

Simpson: I'm totally against it and offended by it. I'm going out to let my real talent show, not to just stand there and dance around. Personally, I'd never lip-synch. It's just not me.

And more:
Ultimately, her show was a close-up glimpse of Pop Star Day Care.
And even more:
Because the public is fickle. Just as her invention as a pop diva captured its imagination, insuring that her album debuted at No. 1 while her sloppily-crafted pop-star self was still half-formed, so will they turn on her for being the fabricated, marketed, propped-up self that they knew she was from the start.

Check out her first live performance (Click on Video Clips: Ashlee hits the...on the right side of the page next to her photo) at the Knitting Factory, from MTV.com. Notice that the live recording goes into faux-music video mode as soon as Ashlee starts to sing on stage. Can she really be that bad?

Oh come-on. Imagine singing before a national audience knowing the outcome was tantamount to the rest of your life if you flubbed. Lets face it I heard some really good singers sound like shit where they tried to perform in areas that was not designed for accoustics.
Critics that jump on a situation like this suck.
This is not the same situation as Vanilli Manilli where
they didn't sing at all - just danced to the music. I say give the girl a break. 07161946

Dear Mr. Simpson,

I support your support for your daughters. I sincerely assert that Ashlee has almost as much talent as Jessica. Both are fine performers. I came to this conclusion by noting that a) they both perform, and b) they both be fine.

I'll agree that she hasn't sunk to Milli-Vanilli depths. She does actually sing on her album. And she'll never be in danger of defrauding the Grammy awards. On the other hand, Milli Vanilli would never have danced the hoe-down.

Sincerely,

Canowine

Who cares? The music of both the Simpsons will disappear from the shelves as soon as their second chins make an appearance. Thankfully the likes of Beethoven, Chopin and their peers are still available for those who believe music should be an aural experience.
